Halkidiki makes a wonderful setting for your wedding, with a limitless selection of magical settings & scenic backdrops for your big day! Changes in the laws in the last few years have made it much easier to have a wedding in Greece so getting married in Halkidiki is now easier than ever.
Legally it is relatively simple to marry in Greece. Weddings in Greece are legal for couples from the US, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Europe & most other countries. The paperwork required will depend upon where you are from and your personal circumstances. But it has got much easier to arrange than it once was.
If you want to do it on your own you will need to contact the president or mayor of the community for a civil wedding, or the head priest for a religious wedding. Some documents have to be translated such as your birth certificates. And follow the exact procedures that they will tell you.
Most couples opt to use a wedding company to help arrange their marriage for them but you can arrange your wedding yourself.
Legal documentation required for a civil ceremony wedding.
(all legal documents need to be authenticated by the Foreign Office and translated into Greek)
* Valid ten year British Passports – these do not need to be translated
* Full Birth Certificates showing parents details
* If divorced-
* If widowed-
* If either of the couple has had a name change (including reverting back to
maiden name)-
* If either of the couple is under 18 years-
* A Certificate of No Impediment is required from both of the persons intending to marry.(This is issued by your local registrar)
Photocopies of Birth Certificate & Decree Absolute must be stamped and signed by the Apostille Hague Convention. An Apostille is a special seal applied by an authority to certify that a document is a true copy of an original. See www.apostilleinfo.com for more information or write to:

Please note the originals must be brought with you when you travel to Greece.
Both individuals concerned must apply for and collect the marriage licence upon arrival in Greece. They should have their passports with them, at all times.
At the wedding, the bride and bridegroom should each be accompanied by one adult witness (who may be a relative) and who will produce his/her passport upon request.
After the wedding you are required to declare your marriage at the local Register Office.
